Flashes of Fate
Before an idea becomes a work of art, it first passes through a moment of sudden inner revelation. Lubo Kristek often captures these flashes in the form of sketches, sometimes even in the middle of the night. The Lubo Kristek Museum (Muzeum celoživotního díla Lubo Kristka) presents a unique collection of these earliest records — evidence of the images that emerge in the artist’s mind before they take on a material form.
These sketches are far more than technical drawings. They are traces of the moment when intuition encounters form, when nothing has yet been determined and everything remains possible. Many of them foreshadowed works that would later grow into monumental sculptures, assemblages, and paintings. Exploring this part of the museum offers a glimpse into the very origins of Kristek’s imagination, the moment when an artistic idea is only beginning to awaken.
Within the setting of Chateau Lubo (Zámeček Lubo), where the artist still lives and works, these sketches acquire a particular immediacy. They are not relics of a distant past, but part of a living creative process that continues to unfold to this day.
